Why do people not like Courteney Cox?

I have a few theories. It is possibly because a)Monica is not as easy to like as the other characters in FRIENDS b) she is the best looking cast member - jealous? c) related to (b) - that she is over 40 and people are buying into the fact that women over 40 can't be seen as "pretty" and must adopt different kinds of roles - as with Teri hatcher. Just a few thoughts. I don't think she a a bad actress or a bad comic actress at all; her character just isn't as out-there as the others and she may be perceived as annoying because of her character's personality. Jennifer is seen as "America's darling" because of Rachel, and Lisa as Kooky. I think this is definitely a factor, at least sub-consciously. What does everyone think?

Why do people not like Courteney Cox?
Courtney isn't like Paris or Britney. She's stayed safely out of the party scene and she hasn't been making any big news for a while. Courtney's in her forties, sure. She's unafraid to admit it, and she has a gorgeous little baby. Well, she's 42. She doesn't hide it and she's happy with whom she is. That's what's important and if people can't pay attention to that or if they think of CC as her character, then they're selfless jerks.

And the trouble she get's into are easier to relate to.

Reply:I believe that its because she is put into crappy movies. Also, she isn't a very good actress compared many others. I don't believe any of the actors/actresses on Friends is very good. I know people are going to come back about "Oh Jennifer Aniston is good." No, not really. Any movie she has been in other actresses could of easily played the character and done a better job. She takes on very easy roles and gets by because of her looks. Aniston is way better looking then Courtney Cox too.

Reply:i agree with your first theory. monica was definitley kind of standoffish and people tend to associate a character an actor/actress plays for a long time with that person automatically. my guess is that people don't like courtney cox because to them, she IS monica. and who likes someone who will clean your bathroom to make themselves feel better? lol


personally, i like her, i think she did a fantastic job on friends and is a beautiful woman. her new show DIRT is amazing and dramatic, a good powerful role too. as far as the whole over forty thing? hell they are jealous i hope i look like that at forty.

Reply:I have no reason not to like her, or to like her for that matter. But maybe it's because their jealous. Couldn't be her character, that'd be ridiculous. a lot of people are jealous of celebs.
Reply:I love her but I see what you are saying. I definately agree that I think people subconciously see her as nuerotic because her character. She is a great actress, very funny, and seems to be a nice person with a happy family. Give her a break people.

If somebody doesn't like her...I guess it's out of pure envy.

Reply:I didnt know that people didnt like Courteny Cox I happen to enjoy her acting and find her charming. Everyone has this preconcieved notion of what people really are based on the work that they do. She is not Monica and im sure she is not as OCD as monica although I found that to be one of the reasons I tuned in to Friends I enjoied seeing that play out. As for her new show Dirt I think she takes on something so diffrent from "Monica" that its hard for some to see her in that light. I really like the show and hope it gets a fair chance.

i think you are right that it is because of her character but also, even though she is funny and friendly, she is quite composed in interviews and may possibly come across as icy or hard to relate to. i think she is just quite private and people react badly to celebrities who try to lead normal lives. if people would just pay attention when they see her interviewed and stuff, she's really sweet and chatty!!


also her character in scream was kind of an annoying cow so maybe that's it too.


i don't think it's an age think really though cos it was the same before she turned forty (she is forty isn't she?)


pretty as jennifer aniston and lisa kudrow are, i think courteney is actually more beautiful. maybe that's it! subconciously people respond better to prettiness than beauty because it's more relateable.
