Into the Woods Audition Help?

I am auditioning for Into the Woods tomorrow and I'm just asking for your opinions on my song choice.

The production is at a local professional theatre and they are only casting ages 18 and older.

I would really LOVE to play the role of Jack - it is a role that I have wanted to portray for years. I am twenty years old and quite tall, but I can play younger (I also think it would be humurous if Jack were tall and his mother were shorter - you could do a lot of physical comedy with the height difference!) I am a baritenor - my range is low A flat (two below middle C) to high G (one above middle C).

I have chosen "Lost in the Wilderness" from Children of Eden. I chose it because it is a lesser known show, and it is quite complex, as Sondheim's work often is. I feel, however, that it may be too mature of a song to sing if I really want to play Jack. I would be interested in other roles but feel they will probably go to older, experienced actors.

Did I make the right choice?

Into the Woods Audition Help?
I'm not quite sure what to tell you. I haven't heard the song you're talking about, and I haven't extensively researched songs for males, as I generally audition for female roles. I don't have much experience...

Anyway, Jack is often considerably taller than his mother (see Original Broadway Cast). I'm in Into the Woods this year, actually (I'm playing the Witch), and our Jack is a lot taller than his mother.

If you're looking to change your song, look for a patter song, something fast and upbeat and young. Good luck!
Reply:I don't know the other song ( The Children of Eden one), but I would have thought" Corner of the Sky" might be a good choice. It can show off your range and if you sing it well should be as good a choice as a more difficult song. Audtitions I feel, are not about showing off but more about showing potiential, and a good director/casting director should be able to see that. It is repetitive but do you need to sing the whole song? Will they let you sing the whole song? Maybe something like "Winter's on the Wing" from "The Secret Garden"? This has the same sort of sound as Jack. He needs to be able to sound young but still have enough "ooomph" to give "Giants in the Sky" some body. Just my thoughts, BREAK A LEG!!
