Is it time to start real profiling?

To ensure we Americans never offend anyone -- particularly

fanatics intent on killing us -- law enforcement and security

screeners are not allowed to "profile" people in public places or

security checkpoints. However, they will continue to perform

random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots

with proper identification, Secret Service agents who are members

of the President's security detail, 85-year-old congressmen with

metal hips and even Medal of Honor recipients. But targeting

Middle Eastern male Islamists between the ages 17 and 40

constitutes "ethnic profiling."

President George Bush said this week, "America is at war with

Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us

who love freedom, to hurt our nation." The Council on

American-Islamic Relations issued an immediate objection to the

President's reference to "Islamic fascists". Nihad Awad,

executive director of CAIR protested, "We have to isolate these

individuals because there is nothing in the Koran or the Islamic

faith that encourages people to be cruel or to be vicious or to

be criminal. Muslims world wide know that for sure." In light of

this objection, we are left to ponder why every Islamic leader in

the U.S., and the world, does not publicly condemn every terror

action being undertaken in the name of the god of Islam. Their

silence is deafening...

Between 1970 and present, there were more than 60 other notable

examples of terrorism perpetrated by Middle Eastern male

Islamists between the ages 17 and 40, but we think you get the

point. Singling out "Middle Eastern male Islamists between the

ages 17 and 40" is not "ethnic profiling," it's "terrorist

profiling" -- acting on prolific evidence.

Anyone for Terrorist Profiling?

Is it time to start real profiling?
Yes Very very good. Exactly we are at "WAR" with Islamo Fascists, They are and look like "ARABS". When will this insanity end. Profiling has it's place. This is where it belongs. If it looks like a terrorist, and smells like a terrorist, well by God, the chances are he might be a terrorist.

Not one of the Bombings have been carried out by a little ol lady from Cincinnati.

Reply:Racism is wrong, any which way you look at it.

Kiss my ***, you racist *****.
Reply:Wow. That's a long question. I think racial profiling is a dangerous place and that's probably why it's being handled carefully. Sure publicly they act like they consider anyone a suspect but you know that's just a show. But what about WWII...the innocent Asians that were jailed because of race. I think that taught our government a lesson. That's why the public facade.
Reply:I'm sure there are other terrorist attacks that you might be conveniently skipping there.
Reply:Your reasons are why the Patriot Act should have been embraced by every true American.
Reply:Hm. A toughie.

I know I am not entirely right but it is part of the Islam teaching that they look out for each other.

Now if an extremist throw in silly ideas like "Kill these people because they are the ones responsible for your brothers' hurting" then the devout Muslims who are unfortunately get themselves brainwashed will go out and to perform suicide bombings and the like.

Let's see. If everyone is to convert to Muslim. Do you think it will end the human race because they bomb each other?

I don't think so.

I believe there are a big group of Muslim people who condemn these terror attacks. I always here them say "It is not part of the Muslim teaching"

So saying "Middle Eastern male Islamists between the ages 17 and 40" is wrong. First off.. not all are from the Middle Eastern. And not all are male.

But I agree that it is close. The Muslims, if they do understand and see past "religion/ethnic prejudice", can't blame the society, hell, make it the whole world, to associate "Middle Eastern male Islamists between the ages 17 and 40" with terrorists. Just watch the news!!!
Reply:The reason why racial profiling is a questionable tactic is because it conflicts with the consitution. Under the 4th Amendment, we are guaranteed the right not to be subject to search and seizure without probable cause. Race is difficult to be classified as probable cause because someone's race is not indicative of his/her likeliness to commit a crime. It's a fact that statistically, only a minority of any given race commits and is convicted of crimes.

Furthermore, how will you racially profile for terrorists? Terrorists are not confined to a country or a race. Last time I checked, wasn't there some white dude from Philly that was captured for being a terrorist back in 02? Weren't the individuals who were arrested in Florida all black? Terrorists aren't stupid; they recruit outside of their race too.
Reply:Interesting review.

I go through security at airports almost every week and find the level of security almost laughable. If we have to actually rely on TSA to keep us safe on our flights, we are in big trouble. You will notice that the most recent plot in the UK was foiled due to solid intellegence gathering. The plot was stopped before it went into the implementation phase.

We have to stop these plots before the bad guys get anywhere near the airport.

I think that if we are really going to be serious about airport security then we need to have a system where every passenger is interviewed. The Israelis ask every passenger questions and then send the fishy ones for additional screening. It would take a long time to catch a plane, but it would be a safer flight.
Reply:I agree the limits placed on our "peace officers" is ridiculous. Profiling is a normal procedure to locate, in this case terrorists.

The FBI and all law enforcement agencies use profiling.

Even the employers use profiling to a certain extent when interviewing for positions.

So enough about the political correctness. Let our people do their job.
