Why can't we 'profile' Middle Easterners as TERRORIST?

To ensure we Americans never offend anyone -- particularly

fanatics intent on killing us -- law enforcement and security

screeners are not allowed to "profile" people in public places or

security checkpoints. However, they will continue to perform

random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots

with proper identification, Secret Service agents who are members

of the President's security detail, 85-year-old congressmen with

metal hips and even Medal of Honor recipients. But targeting

Middle Eastern male Islamists between the ages 17 and 40

constitutes "ethnic profiling."

President George Bush said this week, "America is at war with

Islamic fascists who will use any means to destroy those of us

who love freedom, to hurt our nation." The Council on

American-Islamic Relations issued an immediate objection to the

President's reference to "Islamic fascists". Nihad Awad,

executive director of CAIR protested, "We have to isolate these

individuals because there is nothing in the Koran or the Islamic

faith that encourages people to be cruel or to be vicious or to

be criminal. Muslims world wide know that for sure." In light of

this objection, we are left to ponder why every Islamic leader in

the U.S., and the world, does not publicly condemn every terror

action being undertaken in the name of the god of Islam. Their

silence is deafening...

Between 1970 and present, there were more than 60 other notable

examples of terrorism perpetrated by Middle Eastern male

Islamists between the ages 17 and 40, but we think you get the

point. Singling out "Middle Eastern male Islamists between the

ages 17 and 40" is not "ethnic profiling," it's "terrorist

profiling" -- acting on prolific evidence.

Anyone for Terrorist Profiling?

Why can't we 'profile' Middle Easterners as TERRORIST?
that's my job at school. i love stereotypes

Reply:You make perfect sense. To ignore the obvious is ludicrous and irresponsible. Good for you.
Reply:Right on babe.

Your question is kind of long, but I agree with the basics.
Reply:Actually Estee, you're wrong - not all the London bombers were of Pakistani descent. Check out the BBC website for their racial background.

OP makes an interesting point - there was uproar in London a few years back over the 'stop and search' policy by the police, who were focusing mainly on young black men. Many people felt that this was racist and said equal numbers of whites, asians, women and elderly people should be stopped too. Even when the police produced statistics to show that young black men were far and away the most common perpetrators of the crimes being investigated at that time people still insisted the search parameters be changed. I don't even call that political correctness gone mad - I call it brain-dead stupidness to focus valuable resources on people who are not in a likely demographic group for the offence in question.
Reply:We should profile. We are NOT blaming Muslims but if I go out and beat up a black person and I'm white it is considered a racism attack. That is profiling. While it may inconvenience Muslims we're sorry. If it keeps the plane from blowing up than it should be allowed. We are NOT saying ALL MUSLIMS are TERRORISTS. But I belive ALL TERRORISTS are MUSLIM. Can you get that in your heads? We are not blaming Islam.

In 1998 a car bomb was detonated in Omagh, killing and maiming dozens, it was planted by a) a milkman b) a bicycle repairman c) superman d) the Real IRA - an Irish catholic republican group

Sri Lanka has been torn apart by war because of a) a galloise smoking frenchman b) a pipe smoking englishman c) a cigar smoking american d) the Tamil Tiger seperatist group, bent on achieving the seperation of the Tamil ethnic group through open warfare with the Sri Lankan government

The majority of cocaine imported into america and europe comes from Columbia. It is grown by a) a group of sorority girls b) a group of Jesuit bishops c) some Cockneys who are all called Dave d) Columbian gangsters who live a lawless existance, frequently kidnapping and bribing their government

The Klu Klux Klan's who are responsible for the killing, trial fixing, discrimination and racial hatred of blacks and other ethnic minorities find their membership amongst a) Tibetan Monks b) Barbershop singers c) plumbers d) white protestant southern american males

Reply:very good point. very good question. why can't we label them for what they are?

Thank you
Reply:If you were going to answer your own question, why did you bother to ask it?

Many people of Middle Eastern descent are American citizens and deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Not all Muslims are of ME descent. Some are white. Some are black. You cannot tell a persons religion by the color of their skin. Many are Christians. Racial profiling is wrong. Why should we condemn an entire group of people because of a few extremists? People like you fit right into the mindset of those who think all Westerners (Americans included) are infidels and should be wiped off the face of the earth. And with Hitler who wanted to kill all the Jews and succeeded in killing 6,000,000 of them.
Reply:FOR YOUR INFORMATION - London bombaings last year was by British born pakistanis - Pakistan is NOT Middle East!

Lady, before you spew venom, know your geography and history, too.

After all USA sent arms to Nicaragua, backed OSama bin Laden before WTC bombings.

Adolf Hitler was not a middle Easterner either.

And the Una bomber, Ted Kaczynski, was not a Middle Easterner. So you conveniently overlook all this?

PS- One of the suspected terrorist in London yesterday was a woman with a small kid. So there goes your theory out of the window that kids shouldn't be included.
Reply:you have plenty of facts there my beautiful sweetheart, to say that every middle eastern person is a terroeist is going a bit to far. most of these people are brought up as highly religious people and are stuck in the middle of all this insanity. there are three types of terror in this world that are responsable for the terrorist acts. 1) religion, 2) politics, 3) drugs. Tell me im wrong.... its not as if these people can get on a plane and go somewhere else... terrorist are scum of the earth but there is no need to blame the innocent. By the way you are a very beautiful woman.
Reply:I think I'm in love.
Reply:Looks like you copied and pasted this question from another source. We should do like Israel does at their airports. Instead of profiling people, they look for terrorists. Yes, they know what to look for.
Reply:I hear you. You made a powerful, persuasive and, may I say, thorough case for profiling. But how effective will that profile be once the terrorists discover the profile and start sending 80-year-old grannies and 7-year-old blonde-haired boys in to blow us up, while we're looking for Middle Eastern Islamist males between the age of 17 and 40?

people behind the beslan killing were not middle eastern. they are chechnyans. and they are not islamists they are just seeking independence. like palestinians. do your research first.
Reply:I love how this argument seems to always conveninently forget McVeigh's bombing in Oklahoma City, the Unabomber, the subway deaths in Japan, etc...

Here's another version of your accusative question: Why can't we 'profile' men as RAPIST?

I think our legal folks are doing enough profiling already, without actually equating the two. Yes, obviously we need to pay attention to militant Islamic groups, but that doesn't mean they're the same thing.
Reply:No Thanks Lizard Lipps!!!
Reply:Think back to Oklahoma City.... Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were as white and "all-American" as they come... wouldn't they be considered terrorists? Just some food for thought, love....
Reply:Yeah! And maybe while we're at it we should start profiling all blondes as dumb!

You're stupid.
