In which medium does the sound travel the fastest?

A- salt water

B- fresh water

C- air

D- cast iron

In which medium does the sound travel the fastest?
D- cast iron

The speed of sound depends on the density of the medium. Iron is the most dense medium on the list, hence sound will travel fastest in it.
Reply:The answer is D

Sound travels quicker through solids

Surely you learnt that in primary school?

To put it simply

Waves travel quicker in solids beause the molecules are close together therefore it can get bounce off the molecules quicker

In gas and liquid where the molecules are spread out the waves need to find a molecule to bonce off therefore it travels slower

Well at least thats what i was taught
Reply:Cast iron. Sound travels the fastest in a medium with a large bulk modulus.
Reply:in space no one can hear you scream about the fact that you are too stupid to answer a really easy homework question without yahoo anaswers.
